11 Sep Done in a Day
The Junior League of Longview’s Done in a Day project is an opportunity for our membership to serve local organizations by offering our volunteer “woman” power for ONE day! This allows the League to impact numerous, established projects to reach their goals and hopefully accomplish even more than they had aspired to through our financial resources and the help of our trained volunteers. Throughout the history of this project we have worked alongside many organizations in this manner. For example, we lend our time to the Longview Habitat for Humanity –Woman’s Build, helping other local women erect a home for a deserving family. We have partnered with the Longview Museum of Fine Arts to provide financially underprivileged students with hands-on experience with art, encouraging creativity and fostering a love of the Arts. Assisting the Kilgore College TRIO and Upward Bound programs, we were able to educate and encourage low income and first generation college students by facilitating classes on Interviewing Skills, Dressing for Success, a Composition Clinic, and Dining Etiquette. We have sorted and handed out coats, helping Longview Community Ministries pass along warmth and hope to local families. Members have assisted Child Protective Services by helping Foster children dress and prepare for the experience of prom. The list could go on and on thanks to the generous donors in our community and our dedicated volunteers!
